I went a little fermentation crazy today and made excessive amounts of kombucha and sauerkraut, check it out!
What did you cook this weekend?
You know what sucks about nutrition? Well, I don’t think anything, I think everything about nutrition is saweeeeeeet. But you know what sucks about mainstream nutrition? Everyone is always telling you what you can’t eat. I hate being told what I can’t do. So I’m not going to do that to you, at least not today.
Today I’m going to tell you what you should eat- avocados! And a lot of them. At least one a week, heck, one a day if it floats your boat. I’m obsessed with avocados and you should be too. My precious peanut is actually named after the avocado. Isn’t she the cutest?

Avocados are actually toxic to dogs. Fail. Well, on to the fruit.
Yes, avocados are a fruit. One Hass avocado has about 230 calories, 3 grams of protein, 12 grams of carbohydrate and 21 grams of fat, the majority of which is monounsaturated. YUM! One avocado also has about one third of your daily needs of fiber at 9.2 grams and over 15 different vitamins and minerals [1] [2].
Avocados have demonstrated beneficial effects for cardiovascular health, weight management, and eye and skin health [3] and the phytochemicals in avocados have also been shown to induce the death of precancerous and cancerous cells [4].
Eating them is as simple as cutting open and diving in. Take a look at the video to see how to pick, cut, and pit an avocado.

You can totally eat it just like that or better yet add it to a salad. Some vitamins need a source of fat with them in order to be absorbed and since we are staying far, far away from soybean oil based dressings, avocados are a great source of fat for your salads.
Eat plain, topped on salads, sushi, or eggs, or try these recipes:
